<p>While I am generally not a fan of popular diets, I did find myself asking the question, &#8220;What is the flat belly diet?&#8221; when I first heard about it. Prevention Magazine developed this weight loss program a while ago. And it seems to be meeting with some success. And although it&#8217;s not as easy as food combining, with a little work it can help you lose weight.</p>
<p>The main idea behind this particular system seems to be the introduction of mono-unsaturated fatty acids into your eating habits by adding calories rich in this substance. The method seems to be fairly easy to follow and there have been reports of success. The types of foodstuffs they want you to eat include:</p>
<p>•	Olive Oil<br />
•	Peanut Butter<br />
•	Nuts and Seeds<br />
•	Avocados</p>
<p>I suppose if there is one problem with this diet is that while the food it endorses are very healthy for you, they also are very fatty. Even good fat is still fat. In addition you have to sign up for the diet online and it appears like there might be a cost involved after the free trail offer. The flat belly diet might be for you. I suppose you&#8217;ll have to try it to make up your mind.</p>
<p>For my part I feel a more effective and simpler method is one where all you have to know is how to shift your calories around. The reason that you&#8217;re over weight is that you are eating the wrong food combinations and using the wrong types of eating patterns. The proper diet for you to be able to have a flat belly doesn&#8217;t involve starving yourself. Low calorie diets simply do not work.</p>
<p>And the idea of reducing carbohydrates as a way of losing inches off your belly is a disaster. Carbs turn into essential sugars which maintain your own blood sugar levels at acceptable levels. Did I mention forget about being able to go out to most restaurants? No, thank you.</p>
<p>What people need to realize is that food is not the enemy! In fact, certain foods in combination with others can actually help you lose those unwanted pounds. The brain releases two particular hormones into your system that control whether you will burn the calories you consume or store them as fat. This is important information for those interested in losing weight without having to starve themselves thin.</p></div>

This new diet even allows you to eat your favourite foods including chocolate. Dubbed as the &#8220;Flat Belly Diet,&#8221; this eating plan was invented by the editors of Prevention Magazine.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s called the &#8220;Flat Belly Diet,&#8221; and it really works. Prevention Magazine actually invented the diet, and it works on the principle of including good quality fats in your diet, also called mono-unsaturated fatty acids. These are also called MUFAs (pronounced &#8220;MOO-fahs&#8221;) by nutritionists, and they&#8217;re proving an effective way to lose weight without feeling deprived, and finally keeping the weight off for good. The diet is simple and easy to follow, and you won&#8217;t feel deprived at all when you&#8217;re on it.</p>
<p>Mono-unsaturated fatty acids are found in foods like olive oil, peanut butter, almonds, and other types of nuts, as well as avocados. There are lots of foods that contain monounsaturated fatty acids, and this diet works because unlike some other deprivation diets, you need to include them in modest amounts. In fact, you need to have some at every meal.</p>
<p>How successful is it? In fact, one 46-year-old participant lost 12 pounds and 11 inches in just over a month. How&#8217;s that for success?</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s why it works. Mono-unsaturated fatty acids actually help you lose weight when you eat them in moderation, especially in regard to helping you get rid of that spare tire you&#8217;ve got around your middle. Several studies have shown that if you eat a diet rich in mono-unsaturated fatty acids, you lower your LDL or bad cholesterol, and raise your HDL or good cholesterol. And a significant benefit besides that is that you lower your risk of heart disease and improve insulin function.</p>
<p>Even better, when you eat mono-unsaturated fatty acids with every meal, you feel satisfied instead of hungry and deprived. And it&#8217;s easy to include MUFAs with every meal. You can drizzle a little olive oil-based salad dressing on your greens, nosh a chocolate chip cookie for dessert (yes, you can have dessert as well, with the chocolate chips providing the MUFAs in this case), or grab a handful of nuts to munch on before dinner.</p>
<p>To start the diet, you do what&#8217;s called a &#8220;four-day anti-bloat jumpstart,&#8221; along with a few other diet-specific tricks, and then embark on eating plan that includes three 400 calorie meals a day, a 400 calorie snack, and optionally include exercise as well.</p>
<p>The diet centers around five foods that anyone can find and that most find satisfying and delicious. These are avocados, olives, nuts and seeds, chocolate, and oils. You eat one serving from this group of foods at each meal.</p>
<p>And best of all, you will have more energy than you know what to do with, and the diet itself is about 1600 calories; this is more than enough to keep you energetic and satisfied without either depriving or over stuffing you.</p></div>

<p>Before I start relating exactly which foods should and should not be included in a flat belly diet, I want to dispel one myth: a flat abs diet doesn&#8217;t have to be a fat free diet. This may shock you, but there are some fats which are very healthy to eat. In fact, fat is as important to our body as protein and carbs. You just need to know the healthy fats from the dangerous ones.</p>
<p>Here are some foods which can be included in a flat belly diet:</p>
<ol>
<li>Fruit and vegetables &#8211; These are great snacks and also contain vitamins and other healthy ingredients.</li>
<li>Lean protein &#8211; Protein is a must have macronutrient, but in order to get a flatter stomach get it from lean sources such as turkey, chicken breast, egg whites, and fish.</li>
<li>Healthy fats &#8211; These are fats which are actually good for you: virgin olive oil, coconut oil, flax seeds, almonds, and other nuts are good sources of healthy fat.</li>
<li>Complex carbs &#8211; wild rice, whole flour pasta, whole wheat bread, and other whole grain foods are excellent sources of carbs.</li>
</ol>
<p>Here are some foods which should never be included in a flat tummy diet:</p>
<ol>
<li>Trans fats &#8211; these are unhealthy fats which you should stay clear of. Check out the label on the products you buy to see that they&#8217;re trans fat free.</li>
<li>Processed food &#8211; Eating fresh is usually eating healthy. If you eat processed food expect to find a dozen chemicals inside. All of these just make it harder for you to flatten your belly.</li>
<li>Sugar &#8211; natural sugar from fruit and vegetables is ok, but processed sugar is very bad for you since it&#8217;ll quickly be converted to fat. Avoid all the sugary sodas and useless candy. Alcohol should also be cut down.</li>
</ol>

<p>The average American drinks over 25% of his or her calories. This is a useless endeavor. Most of those calories are empty and pointless&#8230; just sugar.</p>
<p>It would actually be better to just get a 64 ounce water bottle and add 5 teaspoons of sugar to it. Shake it up and sip throughout the morning. Then repeat later again in the afternoon.</p>
<p>Ten teaspoons of sugar is only 150 calories&#8230; so you get your sugar fix, but still are drinking a lot of pure water&#8230; 128 ounces. Try it&#8230; or try some sort of version of it. It&#8217;s definitely way better than simply drinking sodas and other high calorie drinks. You could easily save yourself 200 or more calories a day&#8230; or about 2 pounds a month.</p>
<p>2. High protein and high fiber is the way to go</p>
<p>You probably already know this, but you&#8217;re having a hard time implementing it. Well, here&#8217;s a start for you. Black beans&#8230; each can has no sugar in it, few calories, 25 grams of protein, and 25 grams of fiber. For 48 cents, a can a day would be perfect to get a flat belly and lose weight. You can cook black beans in 5 minutes.</p>
<p>3. 5-6 small meals are better than 2-3 big meals</p>
<p>The reason why more meals is better is because each time you eat, the digestive process increases your metabolism to digest the foods. So the more often you eat, the faster your metabolism is. Now, be reasonable here. This isn&#8217;t a license to just keep eating and eating&#8230; especially bad foods such as potato chips, cookies, etc. Although eating often speeds up the metabolism, it can&#8217;t totally cover up your dietary mistakes such as those.</p>
<p>4. Eat breakfast no matter what</p>
