FTC Seeks Broad New Powers — NPA Issues Call to treat

Here’s what the trainers can do regarding the projected amendment to the Restoring American fiscal Stability Act (S.3217)Published Thursday, April 29, 2010 7:00 amOn April 22, 2010, the Natural Products Association (NPA) and 40  other companies urging the US Senate to  stop proposals for expansion of  the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) powers out of its over financial regulatory reform. NPA is encouraging fitness industry supporters  to speak out on this very important issue by contplaying their senators, urging them to focus on fortifying the stability of the country’s economy, not  control the industries  that had nothing to do with the economy . At a time when businesses are struggling to both survive and create new jobs, adding burdensome new rules  and ceding more authority over business to the FTC is  exactly what the economy  does not need.  A strong call to action is required, as the Senate may take action on the “Restoring American Financial Stability Act” at any moment.

Should these additional powers be precondition to the FTC, these changes could be in all probability:

• The FTC will  the power to  make their own advertising that are inconsistent with what is allowed under DSHEA and the FDA
• The FTC acting as a legislative body, creating “rules ” for industries like the natural products industry in areas in which it has no business
• The FTC levying fines against the businesses for practices it deems illegal without allowing the business to change anything in their policies
• The FTC levying fines against companies for “aiding and abetting” wrongdoing even when the companies did not know a intrusion was occurring
