WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ — Tops Friendly Markets, the leading full-service grocery chain in Western New York, including Buffalo, Central New York, including Rochester, and northwestern Pennsylvania is now offering its shoppers the chance to savor the taste of the original chicken wing with today’s announcement that all Tops stores are now selling world famous Anchor Bar Buffalo Wings.

Tops is the first food retailer licensed to sell Anchor Bar Buffalo Wings in its stores.

“Buffalo has long been known as the birthplace of the chicken wing,” said Frank Curci, Tops chief executive officer Frank Curci. “Tops Friendly Markets is proud to be working with another Buffalo institution, the Anchor Bar, to sell the original Buffalo Wing in all of our stores.”

Tops Friendly Markets operates 71 full-service supermarkets and five franchise supermarkets across Western and Central New York and northwestern Pennsylvania, including Buffalo and Rochester, N.Y. and Erie, Pa.

Curci explained that five varieties of Anchor Bar chicken wings are available, fully cooked, in the prepared food section of all Tops locations everyday.

In 1964, using a recipe that still remains a guarded secret, Teressa Bellissimo created the original Buffalo Wing at the Anchor Bar restaurant on Main Street in Buffalo, which continues to operate to this day.

Curci added, “As a locally-operated company, Tops Friendly Markets continues to take steps everyday to work with local businesses who call Western New York home and to offer our customers a wider variety of products.”

This agreement is the second strategic partnership that Tops has announced recently in the prepared foods area. In October, Tops announced an agreement to add either full-service Tim Hortons restaurants or self-serve Tim Hortons kiosks in all 82 Tops and Tops Xpress locations by the end 2008.
